I had the immense honor of being a part of Wright State University's production of On the Town. This production was directed by Joe Deer, Choreographed by Josh Walden, and Music Directed by F. Wade Russo.

“On the Town,” tells the story of three sailors on 24-hour shore leave in New York City during World War II. The musical by Leonard Bernstein, Betty Comden, and Adolph Green is bursting with youthful energy, humor, romance, and exquisite music.

I had such a fun time being part of the dance ensemble, with my favorite number being a tie between the Ms. Turnstile ballet or So Long, Baby! as a Diamond Eddie Girl.

Each time before So Long, Baby! Hannah Rollins, Anna-Kate Kuszynski, and I (pictured right) would do our own little pump-up moment to get ready for the beast that was that song/dance. Josh Walden wanted to make sure the opening to act two was electric and exciting- that translates to the three of us strutting offstage to then simultaneously struggling to catch our breath. It was a favorite of mine every single night! Also, it was one of the few chances I got to actually look out into the audience each night. Catching glimpses of my family and boyfriend was so special to me.

Getting to know and work with Josh Walden was such a gift! Their energy in the rehearsal room, the way they approached choreographing this show, and their attention to detail taught me so much. One thing Josh was always driving home was the point that the moves you do needs to have intention behind it. Dance is still an expression of what your character wants and the objective you are fighting for, so don't let your eyes Rolodex and instead be present and fighting every single moment. I will carry their advice and teaching with me!
